Dear EAMS members, dear colleagues, friends, and all airway enthusiasts,
At the end of the next month, September 2024, most of us will meet again in Istanbul at the European Airway Congress.
During these last two months, the Scientific and Abstract Committee of the conference evaluated almost 70 abstracts submitted for oral presentation at the EAC 2024.
During this comprehensive evaluation process of all submissions, our team got acquainted with many different abstracts of very variable quality. Although most submissions were case reports or case series, we all understand that correct methodology in airway management papers is crucial for the success and usefulness of the manuscript for the readers and auditorium.
I, personally, very admire continuing research work of a team from the University Hospital in Hamburg, and I would like to recommend one of their current papers, entitled: Thorsten Dohrmann, Nelly Gutsche, Rilana Kramer, Eva M. Zeidler, Katharina Röher, Viktor A. Wünsch, André Dankert, Linda Krause, Christian Zöllner, Phillip B. Sasu, Martin Petzoldt. Prospective development and validation of a universal classification for paediatric videolaryngoscopic tracheal intubation: the PeDiAC score. Anaesthesia 2024; https://doi.org/10.1111/anae.16394.
as the article of the month.
I want to highlight this paper also from the methodological point of view – this is a prospective observational study and includes multivariable model development and validation study.
Sincerely yours,
Pavel Michalek
