Dr. Urtubia completed his training in Anesthesiology at the University of Chile. He obtained a Master's Degree in Total Control of the Airway at the University of Valencia, Spain.
He also has a Diploma in Clinical Quality and Safety, and a course of Instructor in Clinical Simulation.
He works as a staff anesthesiologist at the Vespucio Clinic in Santiago, Chile.
He has completed numerous international and national airway courses and workshops, including a TaT course in Chile, in May 2018.
He has also participated in numerous national and international congresses and courses, bringing the main concepts of airway management to other medical specialties and also to other health professionals.
He has developed a long career in teaching and research in airway management, being the author and co-author of numerous publications in prestigious specialty journals and books, highlighting a chapter of the 2nd Edition of the book Benumof's Principles of Airway Management.
He has been a member of the editorial board of the Revista Chilena de Anestesia, and reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and Trends in Anesthesia & Critical Care (EAMS).
He is a member of the main airway societies: Society for Airway Management (SAM) since 2002, Difficult Airway Society (DAS) as an honorary member since 2003, International Training in Airway Teaching and Research (FIDIVA) since 2015, and the European Airway Management Society (EAMS) since 2017.
In 2019, he created the Chilean Council of the EAMS, being the representative of Chile in the Council.
Since January 2021, he has been developing an international online airway webinar, organized by the Anesthesiology Program of the Universidad Diego Portales. With 12 sessions per year, is seen by hundreds of anesthesiologists of Latin America.
Since June 2022 is Associate Editor of Trends in Anesthesia & Critical Care, and in October 2022 was awarded as Fellow of EAMS.
